Austrian violinist Leonhard Baumgartner won the Eurovision Young Musicians 2024 competition on Saturday evening in the northern Norwegian town of Bodø. He played an abbreviated version of Henri Vieuxtemps’ Violin Concerto No. 5. Second place went to the Swede Hugo Svedberg, followed by Fabian Egger from Germany.
Eurovision Young Musicians was held for the 21st time on Saturday evening. 11 candidates competed for the prizes.
Leonhard Baumgartner was born in Vienna in 2007. He studies violin most intensely at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Dora Schwarzberg since 2022.
Leonhard Baumgartner is also student of Ingolf Turban at the University for Music and Theatre Munich. Earlier studies were done with Regina Brandstaetter. He is a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein. Since 2014, he has won numerous national and international prizes, including the Discovery Award of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) 2023. He has won First Prizes at renowned competitions, such as Ilona Fehér and Zhuhai International Mozart Competition.
