The central idea of the Festival Next Generation organized by the International Music Academy Liechtenstein at the Grand Resort in Bad Ragaz, has been the promotion of young musicians who are on the verge of an international career and whose talent has proved that they will develop into promising personalities. In several rounds, the Jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) has chosen the releases competing in the finals for the awards 2018. « Our list with a total of 357 nominations comprised many very good as well as outstanding recordings. Yet, the rules are way of cruel, since every member has to eliminate step by step all the releases but one », Jury President Remy Franck said. « Obviously many excellent productions are left behind. That’s why we consider our nominations already as a real recognition. For sure, some of the Jury members regret that a number of their own favorites have not made it into the finals, but choices are inevitable and part of the responsibility that shapes the Jury member’s duties. The members of the ICMA Executive Board met in Paris this weekend in order to analyze the voting process for the 2018 Awards and prepare the Award Ceremony in Katowice, Poland, on April 6, 2018. The Board validated the list of finalists for the Awards 2018 which will be officially published on Monday, December 4. The winners of the Awards will be published on Thursday 18 January.

Der 51-jährige Geiger Christian Tetzlaff, der 2015 mit dem ‘Artist of the Year Award’ der ICMA ausgezeichnet wurde, erhält den Würth-Musikpreis der ‘Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland’. In der Begründung der Jury heißt es, Tetzlaff werde ausgezeichnet für seine außergewöhnlichen Interpretationen und für sein Engagement, insbesondere jungen Menschen einen Zugang zur klassischen Musik zu öffnen.
In Schwarzenberg (Vorarlberg), im Dreiländereck Schweiz, Deutschland, Österreich, findet nach ersten Konzerten im vergangenen Frühjahr nun das zweite Festival ‘Alpenarte’ vom 26.-29. Oktober statt. Die von Drazen Domjanic entwickelte Festspielidee ist es, jungen, schon preisgekrönten Musikern ein Podium zu geben. Dazu wird jeweils auch ein solcher Solist als ‘Intendant in Residence’ bestellt.
