The Bechstein grand piano by Franz Liszt, which is located in the Liszt House in Weimar, is playable again. The Klassik Stiftung Weimar, together with the C. Bechstein company and the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar, celebrated the renovation of the grand piano from 1881 with a festive matinée in the Liszt House yesterday.

The mechanics of the instrument had recently become stiff and needed to be overhauled. Bechstein undertook the overhaul of the grand piano free of charge.

At the matinée in the Liszt House, multiple ICMA prizewinner Can Çakmur played works by Franz Liszt on the grand piano. Franz Liszt lived in Weimar until his death in 1886 and taught talented young musicians on his C. Bechstein grand piano. The composer’s former living quarters were opened as a memorial by Grand Duke Carl Alexander shortly afterwards. The music salon and study have been preserved in their original state and can be visited in the Liszt House.

The grand piano on which Franz Liszt played his last public concert in Luxembourg on July 19, 1886 is located in the capital of the Grand Duchy.
