Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández, ICMA Young Artist of the Year 2016, has chosen none other than Anne-Sophie Mutter as his partner for his new album on the Sony Classical label, scheduled for release on November 4. For years, the German violinist and Ferrández have enjoyed a solid and fruitful artistic collaboration. Mutter is the ideal artist, » says Pablo Ferrández. There is always an idea behind her playing, everything happens for a reason. It’s an honor not only to play and record with her, but simply to know her and have her as a mentor. »
The disc opens with the Brahms Double Concerto, recorded live in Prague in January 2022 with the Czech Philharmonic under Manfred Honeck. Completing the program is the Piano Trio in G minor, op. 17 by Clara Schumann, a great friend and advisor to Brahms. Ferrández and Mutter perform this piece with pianist Lambert Orkis, a long-time collaborator of the German violinist.
