The Board of the International Classical Music Awards ICMA held a meeting in Paris last Saturday. The members validated the result of the votes qualifying the winners of the Awards 2014 which will be presented on 12 April 2014 in Warsaw. The Award Ceremony and the Gala Concert will be hosted by the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival. The names of the winners will officially be published on 20 January 2014. Read More →
The ICMA 2014 nomination list is available. « This list comprises all the initial choices submitted by at least two Jury members and clearly reflects the international character of our Awards. The list comprises 264 CD and DVD releases of a total of 94 labels, up from 86 competing in 2013 », said ICMA President Remy Franck.

The winners will be announced early in 2014.
With 18 nominations, the French label Harmonia Mundi is on the first place, followed by Audite (14), Sony Classical being the third with 12 nominations. The final result with the winners will be published early in 2014. The Award Ceremony and Gala concert will take place during the Beethoven Festival in Warsaw, on the 12th of April, with the Polish Iuventus Orchestra conducted by José Maria Florêncio.
ICMA Winner Christopher Nupen is looking for partners to produce both a portrait film and a performance film about Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov, as Allegro Films has done so effectively with several other top musicians in the past. « Those who join this project will be happy », said Nupen. A film about Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki has been presented in Leipzig. On the occasion of Penderecki’s 80th birthday, this film portraits the artist with a comprehensive ‘work in progress’ documentary: despite his growing age, Penderecki, ICMA Lifetime Achievement Award winner in 2011, is still an unflinching and active composer and conductor. The First International Sergey Rachmaninov Award has been awarded to Italian pianist and conductor Epifanio Comis, professor at Bellini State Conservatory and Accademia Pianistica Siciliana in Catania. He is the teacher of Alessandro Mazzamuto, ICMA Young Artist of the Year 2013. The ceremony took place at Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow. Read More →
In February 2014, our colleague Franz Patay will become the Director of Konservatorium Wien University. He will be the successor of Ranko Markovic and Gottfried Eisl. Franz Patay will continue being the General Secretary of the IMZ (Internationales Musik & Medien Zentrum Wien) and, as such participate in the activities of the ICMA Jury. Congratulations, dear Franz! We wish you plenty of success in your new task. Konservatorium Wien University offers world class training programs for instrumentalists, singers, dancers and actors. Every year, around 850 young people from more than 50 countries study with about 250 renowned artists and teachers.
While attending the inauguration of the Liszt Academy’s concert center in Budapest on te 22nd of October, Jury members Bernadette Beyne (Crescendo), Remy Franck (Pizzicato) and Pierre-Jean Tribot (ResMusica) had the opportunity to meet David Hurwitz from ClassicsToday.com, the founder and president of the Cannes Classical Awards. This jury later became – without Mr. Hurwitz – the Midem Classical Awards and subsequently the ICMA Jury. From the initial members of the Cannes Classical Awards Jury a few survived all the forms our Jury has taken: Crescendo, Gramofon, Musica, Pizzicato and Scherzo.
The ICMA Jury was well represented at the inauguration of the Liszt Academy’s new concert center in Budapest on the 22nd October. Jury members Bernadette Beyne (Crescendo). Aarno Cronvall (Classic Radio), Remy Franck (Pizzicato) and Pierre-Jean Tribot (ResMusica) attended the International press conference and the Grand Opening Gala. With the conclusion of reconstruction work on the palace of music on Liszt Square, which reopened in all its original glory, the institution of the Academy is also renewed. Read More →
