ICMA 2013: OUTSTANDING EVENT TO TAKE PLACE IN MILAN

The International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) announce their Award Ceremony and Gala Concert taking place in Milan, on the 18 March at 6:30 p.m., hosted by Orchestra ‘laVerdi’ at Milan’s Auditorium, Largo Mahler. The Award Ceremony will be attended by numerous personalities from the world’s musical life, conductors Riccardo Chailly, Frieder Bernius, John Axelrod and Dmitrij Kitajenko, label representatives from Audite, BIS, Carus, Dux, Harmonia Mundi, Melodiya, Naxos, Ondine, Querstand, Raumklang and Sony Classical, and of course by the ICMA winners 2013, with, at the helm, Maestro Aldo Ciccolini. The Gala concerts following the Ceremony will be conducted by Maestro John Axelrod.

The Jury of the International Classical Music Awards – ICMA is happy and proud to present the winners for 2013.

« The ICMA Jury comprising 17 leading media from 13 countries selected 15 CD and DVD productions among a total of 275 nominations. The winning releases, far from being commercial mainstream, are a selection made without any national motive and therefore provide reliable guidance to the global audience. ICMA Jury Meeting In Meeting In Las Palmas De Gran Canaria

End of January, the ICMA Jury met in Las Palmas, attending the Festival of the Canary Islands and having its General Assembly at the Teatro Guiniguada. Main topics on the Agenda were the preparation of the next Award Ceremony in Milan (March 2013) with the Orchestra LaVerdi conducted by John Axelrod as well as the Rules and Regulations for the 2014 Awards. The Awards 2013 will be published on the 1st of February.

In Las Palmas, a number of decisions also were taken to allow the preparation of the Award Ceremony 2014 which will be held in Warsaw. The Award Ceremony and Gala Concert on the 12th of April will be part of the renowned Beethoven Easter Festival in the Polish capital city.

Second Jury Member In Finland

The ICMA Jury continues to grow and welcomes Rondo Classic, the biggest magazine for classical music in the Nordic countries. It has about 7000 subscribers and over 20.000 readers. The magazine was founded in 1963. It covers Finnish and international music life, publishing interviews, reportages and critiques. Classical music, opera, music education and cultural policy are the main topics of the magazine, but it covers also music theatre, world music and sometimes ballet and jazz.

The publisher of Rondo Classic in Classicus Ltd. It publishes also music books and CD’s. The internet site of the magazine is: www.rondoclassic.fi. From 2009 to 2012 Classicus ran also the radio channel Rondo Classic, which is also a member of the ICMA Jury and now operated by another company under the name ‘Classic Radio’. Read More →

Nominations 2013 are online

The Jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) has nominated 275 CD and DVD productions from 86 labels for the next contest. This is an increase of 61.
To become a nomination, a production need to be proposed by at least two jury members. With 24 nominations, the French label Harmonia Mundi is on the first place, followed by Naxos (18), Decca and Virgin Classics sharing the third place with 11 nominations. The final result with the winners will be published on the 1st of February 2013. The Award Ceremony and Gala concert will take place in Milan, on the 18th of March, with the Orchestra LaVerdi conducted by John Axelrod.

New jury member: « Opera »

The British magazine ‘Opera’ has become a member of the ICMA Jury. Recently described (in ‘The Daily Telegraph’) as ‘the bible of the industry’, ‘Opera’ has been the world’s leading commentator on the lyric stage for over 60 years. Founded in 1950 by Lord Harewood, since then it has provided unrivalled coverage of events through a mixture of reviews (live performances, recordings, books), features and analysis, plus monthly listings of events worldwide. Long-standing editors – Harold Rosenthal, Rodney Milnes and (since 2000) John Allison – have ensured cotinuity, and the editorial board is made up of the most distinguished opera critics from Britain’s national newspapers. Though London-based, the magazine has a network of international correspondents, covering performances from every corner of the globe.

‘Opera’ is represented in the ICMA Jury by John Allison, its Editor and Chief Music Critic of ‘The Sunday Telegraph’. From 1994-2005 he was a Music Critic on ‘The Times’. He has written for leading newspapers around the world, including the ‘New York Times’, and is a regular contributor to ‘BBC Music Magazine’. Born in 1965 in Cape Town, South Africa, he studied there in performance, musicology and composition for his BMus and PhD degrees, and while at university was also assistant organist at Cape Town Cathedral.

Big Success for ICMA Gala in Nantes. ICMA Will be in Milan in 2013, in Warsaw in 2014

The ICMA Awards Gala 2012 at La Cité in Nantes (France), hosted by Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire and its Music Director John Axelrod has been called ‘a big success’ by the numerous participants, winners, label representatives, agents and the audience.

That great event of the 15th of May underlined the seriousness and the high level of this Award. After the Award Ceremony a Gala Concert took place and enthused an audience of 1500 in La Cité’s Grand Auditorium. A number of ICMA winners 2012 took part: Krzysztof Penderecki, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Joseph Moog, Krassimira Stoyanova, Véronique Gens, Trio Flamel, Wolfram Brandl and Rachel Kolly d’Alba.

During its General Assembly in Nantes, the Jury welcomed as a new member the Russian weekly Kultura and prepared the Awards of 2013. Read More →
